Army of Ariandel continued

The next regiment for the project were some Victrix Dark Age Archers. To prepare the models for painting, I applied the same method as before: assemble, make cloaks from masking tape, sculpt fur pelts from Milliput, and finally, use the left over Milliput to hide the pudding bases.

Next I wanted to add a little variety and originality to the models, so a few arrow bundles were added to some of their bases (taken from a Perry Miniatures English Army Command spruce). Then a simple undercoat of black, followed by a dry-brush of blue-grey then white completed this stage:

As these models are unarmoured, and I didn’t want them to look like a sea of blue, I focussed on painting just the legs and arms blue, and the rest of the clothing a range of browns. Everything was then given a brown wash, and based using dried green tea, rocks and tufts:

Finally, like with the previous unit, all the bases were given a light scattering of GW snow paint, and then everything was matte varnished (this time I feel I may have used too much though as they definitely came out more ‘matte’ than the first time - lesson learnt).

Here are the completed models in another Kings of War regiment tray completed using the same basing method as the models:
